and experience. You gain this experience from practice and the knowledge from specialty manuals.
You can either purchase such a manual with your beginner lock pick set or try a search at
amazon.com.
Fortunately there are some free manuals online as well. All you need to do is type
"picking a lock" in
any search engine
and you will be introduced in the art of lock picking in a few minutes.
Lock Picking – Is It Really So Easy?
In theory the lock-picking formula is simple. It also seems to be simple when we watch movies
where burglars or special agents unlock a door with no difficulty using just a hair pin or a
paper clip. Experienced pickers can open some locks so easy, usually low quality locks, but modern
locks come in many styles, and that increases the security frame. To unlock these locks, a
locksmith uses professional tools. The main tools in the kit of a picker are the picks (long thin
metal pieces, curved at the end) and the tension wrench.
The tension wrench is the first tool to be inserted into the keyhole and turned into the open
direction. The next step is to insert a pick and begin lifting the pins of the lock. When you use
the pick you have to pay attention to the sounds and apply the right pressure on the pins. This
step requires concentration and without previous practice only luck can lead to success.
An electric pick gun can also be helpful, yet it fails many times. Therefore a professional
locksmith will seldom use it. Lock picking is for experts more than a way of earning a living. It
is a philosophy and an art.
