Door Lock - Keep Your Home Safe!
Every time you leave the house, you lock the door. And you come back, to find everything still in
place. Main reason; your door is locked.
Door locks,
which keep your home safe, are meant for security and privacy not only for the entrance door, but
everywhere throughout the house as well. A
door lock
has to be strong to face hits and break ins.
The level of safety a lock provides depends on its build. Any type with only a key in the knob or
handle is only seemingly secure; a strong enough kick or a simple picking tool can easily open it.
For more safety, as we commonly see nowadays, one inch throw of case-hardened steel is put beyond
the door's deadbolt lock edge.
There are a few types of basic locks. First is the exterior entry lock which has a large,
rectangular body that slides into a mortise. Second is the Mortise lock set that contains the
workings for the knob, lever, or grip handle, latch, and deadbolt; all in a single unit. The third
type consists of the commonly seen Cylinder locksets which have a rounded body designed to fit
into intersecting holes bored into the door. Fourth are the Rim locks, or surface deadbolts, which
are deadbolts independent of the doorknob. Installed inside the door, the bolt fits into a
corresponding sleeve attached to the inside door frame. Fifth is the basic padlock, a familiar
sight on gates, door locks and even luggage zippers. This is a portable key-operated lock built
around a steel loop that clicks into the lock's body. And lest we forget the Double-cylinder
deadbolts that requires the use of a key from both sides of the door.
With technological advances, there are now safer and more secure variations of these locks. We'll
mention the commonly used Electronic locks, Magnetic or Electromagnetic Locks, Tulip Style Locks,
Fingerprint & Keypad Locks, and the Straight Lever Locks.
