combination - one wheel for each number. When the right combinations are dialed, all the wheels
and their notches line up entirely. When all the wheels line up, their notches also align to form
a gap, and then the lock is in effect unlocked.
There are many types of this lock. One of the simplest types is the multiple-dial lock which is
often seen in low-security bicycle locks that use several discs with notches cut into them.
Secondly, is the more secure single-dial locks seen in padlocks or safe-locks which usually use a
single dial that interacts with several parallel discs or cams. Another very popular version is of
course the electronic family of locks used in many doors which require the user to enter a numeric
combination or sequence on a keypad for entry.
